After over 400 and some days DuClaw Bel Air is reopening in on 9/17 after fire and water damages. The place has a new look and a new menu (which I was excited to see because the food before was so so).

Well I had the opportunity to be an Early Bird and try the place out Friday 9/14 with the Hubby and another couple. Friday and Saturday they were giving their club members a FREE meal to give the servers a work out and reviews on the new menu. The deal was we were given 2 set up menus- 1 had appetizer and 2 entrees and the other had 2 entrees and a dessert- and we all got 2 free beers or house wines.

The 1st thing we tried was the Mozzarella Moons- which is basically mozzarella sticks in a crescent moon shaped topped with a nice chunky Mariana sauce. We learned they were homemade and not frozen. They were pretty good!!

Next my Hubby and I split the Carolina Pork BBQ Sandwich- Thinly sliced, slow-roasted pork tossed in Carolina BBQ sauce and served on a fresh roll. Served with homemade chips (weren't impressed with this chips). The sandwich was good but could has had more sauce and we weren't to keen on the bun. But over not bad.

Next we all split the Chicken Baltimore-Sautéed chicken breast topped with julienned prosciutto ham, garnished with lumb crab meat, and topped with Hollandaise sauce. Served over rice and tender asparagus. This was to die for! Oh my goodness it was GREAT! (but we all said we couldn't find the crabmeat nether-less it was YUMMY).

Then we all tried the Spicy Jambalaya-Sautéed chicken, shrimp and sausage tossed with peppers and onions in a Spicy Creole sauce, served over rice. Let me just say it was SPICY- and I mean spicy. Overall pretty yummy!

The other couple split some new burger (which I can recall the name and it isnt listed online)- started with a B. They commented on not liking the bun also and over the burger wasn't bad.

For dessert we all split the Creme Brulee cheesecake- very sweet. it was good but I didn't care for the crust.

So some free food- some out of this world and others so so plus some free beer we had a great time. They were busy. Our reservation was for 9 and we were told to check back in at 9:45. Overall, I am looking forward to the Beer release parties and trying out some new menu items. Reopening is 9/17

This place is awful. I just found your blog and was interested to get your picks on area restaurants as I'm moving to Bmore soon. But having tried DuClaw in the past, I can say it's one of the worst restaurants I've been to in Baltimore or anywhere else. I can't imagine how you didn't notice the same - particularly with the burger which tasted like it had been in deep freeze for 5+ years.

Well say huh? I never said the food was out of this world- overall I said it was so-so. It is one of those hit or miss places. Some nights it isnt bad and sometimes its awful!
