CiCi’s drops buffet price

Hurry because this offer is only good till June 28th

CiCi’s Pizza chain has dropped the price on its buffet to $4.99 or less through June 28.

The limited-time offer varies by market, with some stores even running a value price of $3.99. The buffet price is typically around $5.99, depending on the market.

The five-dollar mark has become a magic number in quick-service restaurants, with Pizza Hut earlier this week debuting a new menu with items from $5 to $6. Some other quick-service chains offering $5 menu items include Boston Market, Subway and Quiznos.

“As the U.S. climbs out of the recession, this bargain for your buck offers a bit of relief to guests during their fast-paced summer,” said Craig Moore, president and chief executive of CiCi's.

The Abbey Burger Bistro- burgers galore

Where to head for a birthday? When trying to get together for a birthday people always try to head to a new place that no one has been to. A great pick would be The Abbey Burger Bistro. This welcoming joint is tucked in a small alley, so look for the side walk sign.

If you are like Wimpy and loves burgers then this is the place for you. They have burgers of all sorts- from bison, veggies, lamb, etc. They have very creative toppings on the different burgers. You can even build you own burger. All the burgers are served in black-and-white-checkered-waxpaper-lined baskets. They also have an impressive beer list with a variety of domestic and international beers available on draft and in bottle.

One burger to try is the Harry’s Bistro Burger- Roseda beef, bacon, sunny side egg, lincolnshire cheddar on an english muffin ($9) and added sweet potato fries ($3). My first bite was a bit of heaven- the muffin mixed with the beef and the egg makes you go Mmmmmmmm! Eggs have been served on burgers before but not like this one. The beef was perfectly cooked to order. The fries, oh the fries- they were the best sweet potato fries I ever had. They were perfectly cooked and seasoned.

Another gret try is the Peanut Butter Burger—Roseda beef, smoked bacon, and creamy peanut butter on a bun ($9). You may be questioning this combination of toppings on a burger. I was offered a bite and I must say I was impressed and enjoyed it. When you hear about this burger the first thought that could could to your mind is of a PB & J sandwich that sticks to the roof of your mouth but it didn’t do that. The peanut butter was a nice addition to it in the moderation that was on it. It wasn’t over powering.

Some of the other burgers that were tested and tried were the Lamburger--cucumber, onions, herbed yogurt, lettuce and toasted pita ($9) and gunpowder bison burger—onion rings, point reyes blue cheese, bib lettuce and tomato, mayo on a bun ($9). My Husband built his own burger (starts at $8). Everyone was very please with their choices and all agreed that the sweet potatoes fries were out of this world!

The service was perfect and the atmosphere was welcoming and fun. The food was very satisfying and original. Next time you’re in Federal Hill try a Abbey burger!

Tips for dining out on the cheap

Here are some useful tips that can be used just about anywhere when it comes to dining out on the cheap.

  1. Find places that have a less expensive bar menu.
  2. Eat at the bar alone: Instead of splitting a check for several courses and dishes, you can try the food yet stay within your budget.
  3. Order two appetizers instead of an entree, they’re less expensive— and you get to sample more things.
  4. Try a restaurant while they’re new and might still have a BYOB policy or a discount on price.
  5. Go for lunch. It’s often easier to get reservations, as well.
  6. Drink a glass of wine at home before your meal, and order just one glass with dinner. Or check to see what the restaurant’s corkage fees are, and bring your own bottle.
  7. Ask about a mid-week prix fixe; some restaurants offer them, but may not advertise it.
  8. Drink tap water: Sparkling is divine, but you’re at a restaurant to taste the food not the bottled water.
  9. Be sure you know what a special costs before ordering.
  10. Don’t arrive for dinner super hungry; you might be tempted to order more than you will eat.
  11. Look for happy hours with cheap eats or free buffets. Great for date night.
  12. Go to places that have a "kids eat free" policy. These savings can add up.
  13. Buy the Entertainment book, which features hundreds of "2 for 1" coupons
  14. Check out my "Good Deal" listings and birthday listings

Fleming’s new prix-fixe menu

Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar said it is upping the quality but not increasing the price of its $35.95 prix-fixe menu. The new version will be out today, June 23 to all 63 locations.

The new summer menu, which will be available until Sept. 21, will feature main courses of filet mignon and scallops, rather than last season’s hanger steak and salmon. A roasted sesame chicken breast with cracked wheat herbed pilaf is the final entrée available.

The filet mignon will be peppercorn crusted and served with truffle-infused pan juices that are enriched with cream. A side of Yukon Gold potato croquettes accompanies the beef. The broiled sea scallops will be served with roasted tomato beurre blanc sauce, as well as orzo pasta.

Each dish will have a suggested wine pairing.

As a starter, you can choose between a spinach salad or chilled potato-leek soup. A caramelized banana crème brûlée with chantilly crème will be offered for dessert.

Yummy deals at TCBY

I was out shopping for kayaks with my Husband last night and we both got a sweet tooth and stopped by TCBY. I hadn't been to a TCBY in years. When I was younger my Mom used to take me all the time- I loved getting waffle cone sundaes!

While I was there I saw three great deals I wanted to pass along:

  • Wednesdays are 99 cent waffle cones
  • from 5-6 pm Beriyo Smoothiesare 1/2 off (blend of TCBY yogurt and real fruit and fruit juices)
  • On Father's Day Dads can get a FREE cup or cone

I had the White Chocolate Macadamia Nut (Nonfat and no sugar added) it hit the spot! Oh how I missed TCBY- I will be heading back soon (maybe today since it is Wednesday)

TCBY frozen yogurt contains two key ingredients: 1) milk and 2) live active cultures (probiotics) Studies suggest that live active cultures (probiotics) may provide numerous benefits, such as improving digestion and helping your body absorb more nutrients.

There are only two locations in our area:

2080 York Rd Ste 125
Timonium, MD 21093

9400 Snowden River Pkwy
Columbia, MD 21045

Save at Rita's when you buy a paper lemon

My Husband and I went out to use my Birthday email of buy 1 get 1 from Rita's last night while the power was out. While paying they asked my Husband if we want to donate $1 to Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation (pediatric cancer research). Of course we said yes and we were surprised to see when we got to the car that they gave us coupons- 1 coupon for $1 off and another one that was buy 1 get 1. WOW what a deal spend an extra $1 and you basically get it right back (the coupons are good till August). We also got to personalize a paper lemons, which will then be displayed in the local store’s “Wall of Hope,” a visual tribute to the community’s participation in the fundraiser.

So next time you head to Rita's and they ask you to donate $1 to Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation go ahead and hopefully you get the same coupons as we did!

Today is is National Donut Day- FREE donuts

Today, a few of you favorite local donut places will give away free treats in honor of National Donut Day, an annual holiday that has its roots in the Salvation Army.

To find out more and where to get your FREE donut click here!!

National Doughnut Day honors the Salvation Army "Lassies" of WWI. It is also used as a fund raiser for needy causes of the Salvation Army. The original Salvation Army Doughnut was first served by Salvation Army in 1917. During WWI, Salvation Army "lassies" were sent to the front lines of Europe. These brave volunteers made home cooked foods, and provided a moral boost to the troops. Often, the doughnuts were cooked in oil inside the of the metal helmet of an American soldier. The American infantrymen were commonly called doughboys. Salvation Army lassies were the only women outside of military personnel allowed to visit the front lines. Lt. Colonel Helen Purviance is considered the Salvation Army's "first doughnut girl".
