Feed it Forward: send FREE $10 restaurant gift certificates

Now until Christmas, individuals can give up to $9,000 in Restaurant.com gift certificates FREE, from a total pool of $30 million, to family, friends and co-workers located anywhere in the country—at no cost.

Visit the Feed It Forward giving site at: www.Restaurant.com/FeedItForward

To send free $10 gift certificates, gift givers simply enter their name and email address, as well as information for the people they wish to give to—as many as 30 people each day. You can go to www.Restaurant.com/FeedItForward every day and share gift certificates with people anywhere in the country.

Once you selects their chosen recipients, you can share a brief note about why they are giving. Restaurant.com will feature some of these messages of appreciation on the Feed It Forward home page and, if chosen by the individual, will send the giver’s personal message along with the gift certificate. As people join in the celebration of giving and give away gift certificates, a U.S. map displayed on the site will depict the areas of the country where the giving is happening along with keeping track of the amount given in real time.

RA Sushi spices up it's menu with new items

I was invited to attend a media event to profile some of the new items on RA Sushi’s menu. Besides new lunch, dinner, sushi and beverage items the menu also has new categories and a “Guest Faves” icon.

“While we have kept our guests’ favorite dishes on the menu, we have made room for some exciting new creations,” said RA Sushi Executive Chef Tai Obata. “We’ve fused traditional Japanese cuisine with concepts from other regions, integrating some Latin influences and adding an entirely new tapas selection.”

A weekend on the Mason Dixon Wine Trail- food and drink part 2

buffalo wings with garlic butter sauce

Related Articles

Last week I posted the first part about the Baltimore local Mason Dixon Wine Trail- here is the continuation of the experience...

Before heading to our second winery we stopped for some lunch at Messina’s Pizza. We started with an order of a dozen buffalo wings with garlic butter sauce ($6.50). They were crispy and perfectly cooked. The sauce wasn’t over powered with garlic flavored and was perfectly coated on each wing. I haven’t had wings this good in a while.

A weekend on the Mason Dixon Wine Trail- food and drink part 1

I was given a wonderful opportunity to spend the weekend exploring the Masion-Dixon Wine trail. This trail reaches across southern PA and into our own backyard here in Maryland. The Masion-Dixon Wine trail is a perfect day trip or a short drive for a weekend getaway.

For this relaxing getaway we stayed at a wonderful Victorian Bed & Breakfast called the Jackson House Bed and Breakfast; with terraced gardens and a welcoming atmosphere just 45 minutes from Baltimore; just over the Pennsylvania Line. Jackson House Bed and Breakfast was selected for Best Hospitality in the annual Best of BedandBreakfast.com Awards, 2007- 2008.

Blue Agave: margaritas, chile rellenos and so much more

I grew in a small town called Muncy in PA. There aren't many restaurants that weren’t chains in the surrounding area- so when I asked my Mom what type of food she wanted to kick off her 60th birthday celebrations this was her reply “Mexican and somewhere you haven’t been yet”- my answer to this was Blue Agave Restaurante Y Tequileria.

After ordering some margaritas the three of us glanced over the menu to pick what we wanted to eat. We had a hard time settling on what to get so we thought the best choice was to create our own tapas menu by ordering a wide variety or appetizers to share as our meal. My favorite margarita I tried was the Prickly Pear Margarita- El Jimador Blanco, Prickly Pear puree, Triple Sec & fresh lime. I like my margaritas on the rocks but I was surprise that they don’t own a blender so don’t look for your margarita’s to be frozen. You could also try one of the 130 premium tequilas. While waiting for our choices to arrive we munched on chips a trio of salsas.

*Sorry for no pictures of the food- I wanted to spend some quality time with my Mom and Aunt and not put them on the spot.

Crossroads Restaurant introduces new fresh menu

The Crossroads Restaurant in the Radisson Hotel at Cross Keys has introduced a brand new lunch and dinner menu featuring meats, cheeses, breads, and pasta all grown or produced from local area vendors and farmers. The menu has a wide variety of Chesapeake Bay specialties made with organic and fresh products from the tri-state’s own resources.

The new menu is modeled after the culinary philosophy of renowned Chef Peter Davis, of Henrietta’s Table, located in The Charles Hotel in Cambridge, MA, who has been an advocate of “fresh and honest” menus, recipes, and vendors for over 15 years. Don Crowther, Executive Chef at the Crossroads Restaurant, has engaged numerous local and organic vendors to supply beef from grass fed, free range cows, organically grown greens and produce, hand-crafted cheeses, and homemade breads and pastas.

Dinner at Canton Dockside-seafood all around

Canton Dockside greets you with murals on the walls and sports memorabilia. The atmosphere is a mixture between sports bar, seafood décor and has modern take on lighting. It still holds on to the fine-dining decor of the building’s former resident, Canton’s Pearls. There is nice amount of parking and outside dining with a shaded patio. The menu offers a variety of seafood, sandwiches and entrees.

First we sampled the Dockside Cream of Crab (Cup $3.95) and the Maryland Crab Soup (Cup $3.95). The cream of crab was thick and had a nice flavor but I had a hard time finding the meat. They also over did the Old Bay seasoning on top. The Maryland Crab soup came it a nice crab claw hanging off the side of the bowl.

One main dish we tried was the Crab Melt- jumbo lump crab cake served open faced on an English muffin with sliced tomato and topped with cheddar cheese ($12.95) I found the crab cake it self to be on the bland side and the English muffin should have been toasted. There was an average amount of meat in the crab cake.

We also tried the Chicken Chesapeake Sandwich- grilled chicken breast smothered with homemade crab dip and melted pepper jack cheese $9.95. This also was on the bland side and honestly had to much crab dip cheese mixture and made the sandwich hard to eat so we ate it open faced with a fork. The crab dip seemed to be more of everything else and less crab

Service was average and it did take us a while for the check to come after we asked for it. We checked out the steamed crabs that went by and they all looked heavy and big. The majority of the other diners there were ordering crabs and not much off the menu. Next time we come in I think we will try the steamed crabs.
