Strip malls tend to hide some great restaurant gems… this is the case for Kavkaz Kebab in Owings Mills. Tucked in behind some chain restaurants is this authentic Azerbaijan cuisine.
Azerbaijan is a small country with the Caspian Sea to the east, Russia to the north, Georgia to the northwest, Armenia to the west, and Iran to the south. It is known for its outstanding cuisine offering various types of kebabs and other Middle Eastern style dishes.
Kavkaz Kebab is a family owned and operated restaurant specializing in authentic Azerbaijani cuisine. It uses the best quality of meat, fresh vegetables, and home-made seasonings. The marinades are based on recipes passed down from generation to generation.
Grilled Eggplant Salad, Loblo Salad, Dolma and Tandori Bread
We started off trying a few of the yummy appetizers. Here are the ones we sampled:
- Grilled Eggplant Salad - Grilled eggplant, green peppers and tomatoes mixed with olive oil, fresh onions, cilantro and seasoning ($5.99) I loved the smokiness from the grill.
- Sautéed Eggplant which is the same as the grilled version just a different cooking method (this one is not on the menu at the moment but will be soon)
- Lobio Salad - combination of red beans, walnuts, cilantro, garlic, olive oil and seasoning ($5.99)

Kevkaz Kebab has a BYOB and carry out option. The décor and atmosphere are welcoming, warm, and authentic. The walls are adorned with photographs from the owner’s hometown. The food is fresh, flavorful and perfectly prepared.
