A visit to the new Basta Pasta of Timonium

Basta Pasta of Fallston has just recently opened a new location in the old Steak & Ale restaurant in Timonium. After hearing good things about the original location I thought I would check the new place out.

When you walk in you are greeted with the familiar look of the old Steak & Ale with a facelift of new paint, flooring and granite. The main color of the walls reminded me of the spice dry ground mustard and accented in a light rust color- the feel of Tuscany. It kept the seven separate dining areas and a lot of wood the old Steak & Ale boasted but it isn’t as dark and dim inside. The bar has a modern vibe with the bottles displayed on a multi-color changing island.

The menu offers a variety of Italian and seafood dishes from appetizers, pizza, pasta, veal, chicken, shrimp and scallops. It also offers daily soup and entrées.

Exclusive, limited-production wine offered at The Capital Grille helps end childhood hunger

From March 14 to April 25, The Capital Grille will offer a Cabernet Sauvignon as the inaugural wine in its Artist Wine Label Series. The wine will be available exclusively at all 40 locations of The Capital Grille, and the company will donate $25 from the sale of each limited bottle to Share Our Strength and its mission to end childhood hunger in America.

Hand-selected by The Capital Grille’s Master Sommelier George Miliotes, the wine was made by world-class winemaker Thomas Peffer of Atalon Vineyards in Napa Valley. The vineyards’ high elevation, rugged terrain and proximity to San Pablo Bay create the perfect conditions for the intense, dark fruit flavors of this custom wine, blended solely for The Capital Grille. Only 7,620 bottles of The Capital Grille Artist Series Cabernet Sauvignon will be produced.

“We are committed to providing a distinctive, accessible and personal wine experience,” said Miliotes, one of only 168 Master Sommeliers in the world. “We created The Capital Grille Artist Series Cabernet Sauvignon to give our guests an incomparable opportunity to experience a magnificent vintage with bold fruit flavors, prominent tannin and the complexity and balance expected of a fine Cabernet.”

Baltimore magazine editors’ ranking of Baltimore’s 50 best restaurants

Baltimore magazine for the second year in a row is ranking the 50 best restaurants in the area in its annual Best Restaurants issue. In its March 2010 issue provides readers insight into each of the top 50 restaurants, a wide variety ranging from casual to fine dining that offers the area’s best in food, service, ambiance, price and creativity.

“We searched high and low for this year’s 50 best and we were surprised at how many newcomers made this year’s list,” said Suzanne Loudermilk, senior editor of Baltimore magazine. “We hope readers will use the issue to discover the perfect restaurant for whatever the occasion, and with many restaurants offering $20 entrees and smaller plates on their menus, readers can also save their money while doing so.”

Another feature in the issue is the Wine Secrets, where restaurant insiders share diner bloopers involving all things wine, and At Your Service, is a profile of some local restaurants that feature chef tables and the unique dining experience that they offer.
