The National Kidney Foundation of Maryland (NKF-MD) is holding its debut Santé: An Epicurean Adventure fundraising event,
Sunday, June 13, from 3 to 6 p.m. at the American Visionary Art Museum.
Designed as one of the region’s premier food and beverage events, SantĂ© will feature guided food and beverage tastings, chef demonstrations, live music by Bob Margolis & The Blues Philosophers and Daysahead, and a silent auction featuring culinary-themed travel packages, gourmet wine dinners, sports memorabilia, work by local artists and more.
Supporting the event are Hugh Sisson, managing partner of Clipper City Brewing Co.; Nelson Carey, sommelier and owner of Grand Cru wine bar; Brendan Dorr, head bartender at B&O American Brasserie, and Jerry Pellegrino, chef/owner of Corks.
Participating restaurants and food include
B&O American Brasserie, Blue Hill Tavern, Clementine, Corks, Crush, Linwoods,
Milan, Neopol Savory Smokery,
RA Sushi and The Wine Market. Also, Parfections will provide chocolates containing beer, wine, spirits and liqueurs. Among the chefs giving demonstrations are Joy Ludwig, pastry chef at Charleston, and Jesse Sandlin, who appeared on Bravo’s Top Chef.
American craft beer vendors include Allagash, Anchor, The Brewer’s Art, Flying Dog, Harpoon, Heavy Seas, Lagunitas, North Coast, Smuttynose, Stillwater Artisanal Ales, Stone, 21st Amendment and Weyerbacher. European beers include Ayinger (Germany), Lindeman’s (Belgium), Orval (Belgium), Pinkus Organic (Germany), Rochefort, (Belgium), Samuel Smith (England), Traquair House Ale (Scotland), Westmalle (Belgium) and Zatec (Czech Republic).
Aveniu Brands will pour wines from around the world; the Maryland Wine Association will serve Maryland’s best wines; Laurie Forster, “The Wine Coach”, will offer interactive and informal wine tasting instruction, and Boylan Bottling will provide artisanal sodas using all-natural ingredients.
A VIP tasting at 2 p.m. will feature premium food and beverage pairings, as well as the following guided tastings not available at the main event: gin by Nelson Carey, rum by Joe Squared owner, Joe Edwardsen, and tequila by Blue Agave owner, Liz Atwood.
Santé proceeds will help NKF-MD to expand its patient services, education and research efforts.
