While out on one of my weekend adventures to one of my favorite places to Kayak (Gunpowder State Park) we came across a great farm that offers fresh chicken and vegetables from their farm to your table- Richardsons Farms.
Richards Farms is basically your everyday Farmers Market located on Ebenezer Road in White Marsh (also in historic Northeast Market on Monument Street). When you stop by here you are sure to find great produce as kale, collards and sweet corn, tomatoes, bins of loupes and watermelons, peppers, cukes and even fresh chicken. Only at Richardson's can you get any quantity of chicken/turkey bagged how you like it and cut anyway you like it- 10 pieces, 10 pounds or 10 cases. Plus its a great place to stop you you want to pack a picnic of rotisserie chicken and your favorite sides in the deli.
Not only do they offer what they grow and raise, they also offer local apple cider, fruits, honey, egg noodles, milk, cheese, and ice cream that they have delivered right from other local farms.
My husband and I were like eager children opening gifts as we explored the market. The first thing I steered towards was the sweet corn (1 dozen for $5). My husband found the fresh ice cream and smoked cheddar cheese along with some fresh green beans.
I served the fresh sweet corn at our July 5th cook out (plus numerous times since then) and I am glad that I decided to buy more than just 2 ears per person because those ears of corn got devoured fast than popcorn popping in the microwave. We got two containers of ice cream (chocolate and black raspberry) and it was smooth, rich and creamy- YUM!
There are many local restraunts that use these local farms or even grow their own produce (farm-to-table or rooftop-to-tabletop): click here to find out more about local restaurants
