Out goes Phillips Seafood and in comes Bubba Gump Shrimp Co.

Bubba Gump Shrimp Co., the first restaurant group based on a motion picture, is moving into the space previously occupied by Phillips Seafood Restaurant and Phillips Express. Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. will open by May 2012. It will offer tasty seafood in a casual family atmosphere and creative environment. Relax and enjoy the atmosphere or grab a bite while enjoying the sites; Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. will offer both a sit-down restaurant and a fast casual dining experience.
“Baltimore residents and tourists alike will have another great reason to visit Harborplace with the addition of Bubba Gump Shrimp Co.,” said Christopher Schardt, senior general manager, Harborplace & The Gallery. “We are delighted to bring this unique casual dining option to our city and expect our visitors to embrace this fun, casual seafood restaurant wholeheartedly.”

“We are excited to bring Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. to Harborplace on the historic Baltimore Inner Harbor,” said Jeff Cantwell, senior vice president of development for Landry’s Inc. “Bubba Gump’s world famous seafood will be a wonderful addition to Harborplace’s assortment of top tier merchants. The outstanding waterfront views will be a fantastic compliment to our one-of-a-kind dining experience.”

"Bubba Gump Shrimp, Co. is a great new restaurant and attraction for the Inner Harbor and Harborplace," said Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake. "I am grateful for the efforts of GGP to enhance Harborplace with new offerings for residents and visitors. Today's announcement builds upon the recent additions of Lenny's Delicatessen, H&M, and this summer’s opening of IT’SUGAR!"

"Baltimore is a seafood town, so Bubba Gump Shrimp Company should fit in well here," said Donald C. Fry, president and CEO of the Greater Baltimore Committee. "Harborplace customers will have a new quality seafood restaurant in a long-standing location where they're accustomed to finding seafood offerings."
As the Shrimp Po’ Boy and Shrimp New Orleans indicate, Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. brings to life the 1994 hit movie “Forrest Gump.” The restaurant features down-home decor reminiscent of the movie’s Alabama setting. Film memorabilia and still photos decorate the walls, along with reproductions of script pages, storyboards and costumes, to create a fun family atmosphere. Scrawled “Gumpisms” decorate the varnished tabletops inside. Guests can try on plaster casts of Forrest’s running shoes at the famed bus bench in front of the restaurant. A retail store within the restaurant sells souvenirs and clothing. Specialty items include Bubba’s shrimp cookbook, license plates with catch phrases like “RUN, Forrest, RUN,” boxes of chocolate, and T-shirts, hats and sweatshirts.

Slainte Irish Pub and Restaurant will satisfy your tastebuds

Slainte Irish Pub and Restaurant located in Historic Fells Point has made some changes- new chef and new menu.  You may have heard of the talented Chef Bill Crouse, formally of Sotto Sopra, is making delightful changes to the menu.

Before your meal comes check out some of the appetizers that will tantalize your taste buds:
  • Ploughman's Platter ($14) with smoked fish, cheeses, charcuterie, homemade relish and spread served with toast points.  Not only is the plating and presentation appealing to your eyes, but also so are the flavors of each item.
  • Sautéed Mussels ($9)- P.E.I mussels with tomatoes, basil and garlic in a white wine butter.  The sauce is perfect for soaking up with toast points and the not one grain of grit was found in any of the mussels I sampled.  The aroma itself will leave you drooling.
  • Guinness Onion Soup ($6)– Au gratin with Guinness Cheddar is full of flavor

Now if you haven’t filled yourself up on one of the mouth watering appetizers then you will find yourself enjoy these entrees:
  • Fish 'N' Chips ($16) - Two portions of Heavy Seas classic lager battered cod, potato wedges and Slainte slaw, and of course vinegar on the side. This Fish ‘N’ Chips ranks among my top 3 and won’t let you down- moist, crisp and slightly sweet.  The Slainte slaw is a crowd pleaser, made from Chef Crouse’s Granny’s secret recipe passed down in his family- freshly made, light on the mayo and included lots of pickles pieces you could actually see.
  • Dubliner Cheddar Mac & Cheese ($13) – baked shells and topped with braised pork shoulder is creamy and the pairing of the Mac & Cheese with the pork is perfectly matched.
Don’t overindulge yourself, get a doggie bag because you will want to try some dessert like the
Guinness Bread Pudding ($8) – bread pudding is always a comfort item on the top of my list and this hit the spot.

I love sitting upstairs here at one of the tables by the window because of the wonderful view of the Harbor and Fells Point.  The walls are adorned with Irish décor and memorabilia.

Restaurant Sabor offers classically prepared meals in a warm setting

Restaurant Sabor (Sabor, meaning "flavor" in Spanish) in the Roundwood Shopping Center in Lutherville, offers diners an innovative menu of classically prepared meals in a comfortable and warm setting. The restaurant features dark, distressed wood tables, over-sized chairs, and plush banquettes. There is also a large community table allows for guests to dine together and a semi-open kitchen.

Each table was served warm corn bread and an amuse-bouche of house chips with truffle salt.

To start off the dinner we tried the Chef’s Daily Choice of soup that was a Watermelon and Basil soup that is served chilled ($6) and the Classic Caesar Salad ($6). The soup was full of flavor that blended very well together and had no over powering tendencies. The salad was fresh and the dressing was perfectly seasoned.

As we moved forward in our meal we tried the Saffron Risotto Bites ($9), which are saffron risotto rounds, stuffed with smoked mozzarella, fried, and drizzled with romesco sauce. The bites had a crispy outside and a gooey goodness inside that was packed with flavor. The plate was empty before you knew it leaving you yearning for more.
