Macaroni Grill offers tasting menu for Valentine's Day

Valentine’s Day falls just a heartbeat behind Mother’s Day among restaurants’ busiest days of the year, with an estimated 70 million love-struck Americans expected to dine out on Feb. 14. Even the cheapest of dates can impress with this spread, including starters such as cheese-stuffed Ravioli, a pasta course (how fancy) with traditional favorites Spaghetti Napolitana and Fettuccine Alfredo, and entrees including Chicken Scaloppine, Chicken Marsala and Pork Chop Vesuvio.
If that isn’t impressive enough — most Macaroni Grill locations have roving opera singers (a little Ravel is sure to impress), and the chain features the memorable “wine wall” where guests can sign their empty house wine bottles and the chain keeps them on display, a little remembrance of a delightful Valentine’s Day. Speaking of which — Macaroni Grill always serves its house wine “on your honor.”

The Lord Baltimore Hotel and Classic Catering People cook-up in collaboration

The historic Lord Baltimore Hotel and The Classic Catering People have announced a unique collaboration in which Classic Catering People will serve as the exclusive caterer for the Lord Baltimore Hotel. 

With this collaboration new and previously booked meetings and events at the Lord Baltimore Hotel will be arranged and coordinated by Classic Catering People. This includes large-scale events and celebrations in the Calvert Ballroom, which can accommodate up to 1,200 people for a reception, as well as events in the new 19th Floor roof-top parlors and other function rooms suited for more intimate gatherings.

Purchased last spring by Rubell Hotels, The Lord Baltimore is currently undergoing a total renovation to restore its prominence as one of the most significant hotels in Baltimore. Renovations to The Calvert Ballroom will be completed by mid-February, The new LB Tavern (which replaces the Lobby bar), the LB Bakery, a new gift shop and health club will be completed by mid-April.  The first phase of new guestrooms and suites were completed and opened this past week and all hotel guests are now enjoying the fully renovated guest rooms.   Renovation design of The Lord Baltimore is by Scott Sanders, a New York based interior designer.

Maryland Live! introduces new menu offerings at Phillips Seafood

Maryland Live! Casino has introduced a new, enhanced menu at its Phillips Seafood location filled with Maryland favorites, including Phillips’ famous all-lump crab cakes, savory seafood soups, blackened fish, and a selection of sandwiches and wraps.

New menu items feature classic Eastern Shore seafood, such as a Double Premium Crab Cake Platter, made with Phillips’ famous all-lump premium crab ($25); Premium Crab Cake & Shrimp Platter($23); Bite-sized Crab Cake miniatures ($14); and Blackened Fish Fillet, catch of the day, coated with spices and flat-grilled ($13).

Additional specialties include a variety of Dips, Soups and Sandwiches, including Crab Dip with Sourdough Pretzel Rolls ($9); a velvety smooth Lobster Bisque ($8); New England Clam Chowder, filled with tender chopped clams ($7); and Cream of Crab ($7). Rounding out the menu are a Buffalo Chicken Wrap, served with lettuce, tomato and blue cheese dressing ($9); a Chicken Salad Sandwich ($8); and a Tuna Fish Salad Sandwich ($8).

Langermann’s is GETTING A JUMP on Restaurant Week! Baltimore’s premiere restaurants for Southern inspired cuisine are offering a special menu from January 27th through February 2nd

Managing Partner David McGill said “Our customers have been asking to make reservations for Baltimore City Restaurant week-which typically begins in January. This year, the event is scheduled for February 16th through the 23rd and we’re excited about participating in that event, however we also want to please our customers. So we’re offering our special Restaurant Week menu a little early. Eddie’s of Roland Park Hosts “For the Love of Chocolate” Event

Eddie’s of Roland Park, a Baltimore culinary landmark for three generations, will host a chocolate tasting event on Saturday, January 25, 2014 from 11 am to 2 pm. “For the Love of Chocolate” will feature tastings, demonstrations and tips to showcase many different ways to enjoy chocolate.  Shoppers will sample such items as chocolate cheese, gourmet chocolate sauces, mocha java coffee and savory dishes made with chocolate.

Local vendors and Eddie’s of Roland Park experts will be on-hand to demonstrate techniques for enjoying chocolate and answer shoppers’ questions.

The French Kitchen Opens at the Lord Baltimore Hotel

From French classics such as Tartare de Boeuf and Salade Nicoise to contemporary preparation of Poulet Roti and Boeuf Bourguignon, The French Kitchen is now open under the watchful eye of Chef de Cuisine Jordan Miller. Currently serving lunch and dinner, and with Sunday brunch beginning in January, The French Kitchen is located in the Lord Baltimore Hotel, the landmark property that was recently acquired by Rubell Hotels.   

“Every inch of the Lord Baltimore is being renovated to restore its prominence as one of the most significant hotels in Baltimore, and the opening of The French Kitchen marks the first public space to be completed,” said Gene-Michael Addis, General Manager of the Lord Baltimore Hotel.   
The French Kitchen offers a full menu ranging from Hors D’oeuvres to Salades to Principaux along with an approachable selection of Sparking, Rose, White and Red wines. Hors D’ouevres include items such as Cured Saumon with dill, crème fraiche, potato, and everything bagel tuile; Soupe A L’Oignon with crouton and melted comte; Tartare de Boeuf with shallots, capers, garlic, herbs, poached egg, pear and crostini; and a selection of Fromage and Charcuterie. Salades range from Vegetables A La Grecque with mixed winter vegetables to Frisee Aux Lardon with arugula, bacon, poached egg, fourme d’ambert, pear and vinaigrette. Entrée selections – or Principaux – include Moules Normandes with apples, mushrooms, heavy cream, calvados, cider and fresh bread; Roasted Canard breast and confit of leg with lentils, orange, fennel and olive; Steak Frites with cippolini onions and french fries; and Raie, skate wing with brown butter, capers, fingerling potatoes and winter vegetables.

Chef Jordan Miller has nearly thirteen years of restaurant experience and began his work in restaurants at the age of fifteen as a dishwasher.  He graduated from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington and the University of San Francisco in Quito, Ecuador in 2008 with a B.F.A. in Creative Writing, B.A. in Spanish and a certificate of Culinary Arts.  Miller has cooked professionally in New Jersey, Philadelphia, North Carolina, California and Ecuador and has recently worked with Plumpjack Hospitality group and winery in Olympic Valley California.

“Chef Miller’s food will be heavily influenced by his travels in the Americas and the chefs who have shaped him and his career. His menus feature the season’s best ingredients and aim to create an approachable, relaxed, comforting and delicious menu that can be enjoyed by both families and foodies, while still paying respects to the history and charm of classical French cooking,” said Addis.

Contemporary cooking series at Wegmans Hunt Valley

There’s nothing like a new technique or two to liven up the home kitchen. Learning to cook with confidence is at the heart of the Contemporary Cooking Series, which resumes at Wegmans Hunt Valley in January 2014. This year, chefs from the Wegmans kitchen brigade, led by Hunt Valley executive chef Jason Hancock, will be joined by special guests Galen Sampson, chef and COO of the soon-to-open Farmstead Grill in Canton, and Barry Fleischmann, chef/owner of Innovative Gourmet, a catering company in Owings Mills.

The classes run from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on the first (or second) Wednesday of the month, from January to May. Maryland Live! new executive food and beverage management team

Maryland Live! Casino has added an addition of two key executives to its Food & Beverage management team. Kevin Wills, a 30-year veteran of the international hospitality and gaming industry, joins the team as Director of Food & Beverage; and Kevin Sterling, who has held executive F&B positions in the Las Vegas and Atlantic City gaming markets, has been named Asst. Director of Food & Beverage.

This seasoned team of hospitality professionals are responsible for the day-to-day management and direction of all aspects of the food and beverage operations at Maryland Live!, including quality assurance, staff training and guest service programs. They will also oversee development of the property’s new Asian restaurant concept to be located in the center of the casino floor.

Kevin Wills brings a wealth of world-class hospitality and gaming industry experience, both domestic and international, to his new position at Maryland Live! Casino. He most recently served in Food & Beverage Operations for Marriott International, based at the Middle East Flagship property, JW Marriott Dubai. Prior, Mr. Wills held various Director of F&B and Director of Resort Operations positions with the Marriott Wailea Resort and Spa, and the Marriott Waikoloa Resort and Spa in Hawaii. He also spent nine years with Hyatt Hotels, spending much of that time in Asia Pacific, where he opened the Grand Hyatt Wailea, Maui, among others. Mr. Wills also held executive food & beverage positions at the Hyatt Regency Guadalajara; and the Beau Rivage Resort and Casino in Biloxi.

Kevin Sterling began his career in the gaming industry more than 20 years ago, working for a small Indian tribe at a Connecticut Bingo Hall, which grew to become Foxwoods Resort and Casino, one of the largest casinos in the country. Mr. Sterling was also on the opening team for Paris Resort and Casino in Las Vegas as Food and Beverage Director; and most recently served as Vice President of Food & Beverage at Showboat in Atlantic City, NJ.
