New to the Baltimore market, Sip Wine Shop & Restaurant, a retail wine market and tapas restaurant, will feature an innovative concept, relaxed yet elegant atmosphere, wide selection of international wines, and chef-driven tapas menu.

Expected to open Labor Day 2014, Sip Wine Shop & Restaurant will offer over 50 wines that may be ordered by the 1 ounce sip, half glass, full glass or bottle.  Additionally, an extensive selection of more than 150 wines will be available by the bottle.  Sip Wine will feature wines from South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Chile, Argentina, Portugal, Spain, Italy, France, and state wineries including California’s Napa Valley and Willamette Valley in Oregon.

The restaurant will include tapas-style menu items offered for lunch and dinner.  Each succulent dish will be paired with a wine suggestion.  Sip Wine Shop & Restaurant will boast an open kitchen – which will take center stage at the 5,800 square-foot restaurant – and provide seasonal outdoor dining.

Sip Wine Shop & Restaurant will be located at 801 Key Highway in Building One (located on the north-end of the building) at The Ritz-Carlton Residences, Inner Harbor, Baltimore.  With restaurant valet parking, guests will appreciate the ease of visiting the downtown destination.  The restaurant will feature a bold industrial chic atmosphere highlighted by distressed wood, and a vibrant color scheme that is perfectly complemented by dark wood tones.  Guests can enjoy their stay by sitting at the family style tables, cozy booths, or at the accommodating bar.  All of which contribute to the warm and welcoming atmosphere found at Sip Wine Shop & Restaurant.

“Cheers!  We are thrilled to welcome Sip Wine Shop & Restaurant to The Ritz-Carlton Residences, offering a new dining experience for our residents, friends and neighborhood locals,” said Joe Graziose, Senior Vice President of RXR Realty.  “When deciding on a concept, we knew we wanted a restaurant with sophisticated wine and menu options like no other in the area.  We believe the wine selections and mix of flavors Sip’s menu offers, will be an added amenity to The Residences, and will serve as invitation to everyone in the region to come and drink, taste and discover the best new restaurant in Baltimore.”

The concept of the new restaurant will be identical to the Sip Wine located in Milton, Georgia, which was opened in 2007 by Foster and Amy Smith.  Just recently, Sip Wine expanded to include Tapas Restaurant & Wine Bar through a partnership with Mark and Ann Jacobs.

“When visiting Sip Wine Shop & Restaurant, guests will enjoy an evening of learning and eating,” says Foster Smith, partner, Sip Wine Shop & Restaurant.  “They will be greeted by educated wine connoisseurs who know about every wine on our menu, and offer suggestions on the best ways to enjoy the wine with items on our unique tapas menu.  We are anxious to share our brand with the Baltimore market, and encourage everyone to raise a glass to our new restaurant.”

Chipotle Partners With Celebrity Authors on Thoughtful New Packaging

Chipotle Mexican Grill (NYSE: CMG) today launched the “Cultivating Thought” author series, a new program that features original essays written by influential thought leaders, authors, actors and comedians on its restaurant packaging. Created in partnership with NewYork Times best-selling author Jonathan Safran Foer (Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, Eating Animals, Everything is Illuminated), who curated the series, these stories are meant to entertain customers while exposing them to some of the most creative and influential people of our time.

Chipotle has traditionally produced content that aims to change the way people think about and eat fast food. This author series serves as an extension of the company’s mission to tell their unique story by engaging customers with thought-provoking ideas and cultural issues. The essays are accompanied by unique illustrations commissioned from a wide range of talented artists.

“Packaging in fast food restaurants is typically sold to advertisers, or used to promote new limited time menu items, but we have never used our packaging that way,” said Mark Crumpacker, chief marketing and development officer at Chipotle. “Instead, we have used it to entertain our customers using wit, humor and design. Following in that tradition, our new packaging allows customers to connect with a great selection of entertaining and thought-provoking authors they may not otherwise have encountered.”

In addition to Foer, contributors for the “Cultivating Thought” author series include:

  • Judd Apatow – Golden Globe nominated writer/director/producer, This is 40, Bridesmaids, Girls
  • Sheri Fink – Pulitzer-prize winning reporter/author, Five Days at Memorial: Life and Death in a Storm-Ravaged Hospital
  • Malcolm Gladwell – New York Times bestselling author, journalist and speaker, The Tipping Point, Outliers, Blink
  • Bill Hader – Emmy-winning comedian/actor/producer, Saturday Night Live, South Park
  • Michael Lewis – New York Times bestselling author and journalist, Flash Boys, The Blind Side, Moneyball
  • Toni Morrison – Pulitzer and Nobel Prize winning author, Beloved
  • Steve Pinker – award-winning experimental psychologist, renowned writer on language, mind and human nature
  • George Saunders – New York Times bestselling short-story and essay author, “Tenth of December,” “The Braindead Megaphone”
  • Sarah Silverman – Emmy-winning actress/comedian, The Sarah Silverman Program, Saturday Night Live, School of Rock

Each writer’s work will be featured on a cup or bag in Chipotle’s restaurants. The essays, all themed as “two-minute” readings, vary in topic and focus, representing the range of talent as well as the range of perspectives of these 10 writers. “We live in a world in which there is shrinking space for literature and writing, and less time than ever for quiet reflection,” said Foer. “The idea of expanding the space and time, of creating a small pocket of thoughtfulness right in the middle of the busy day, was inspiring to me – particularly given the size and diversity of the audience, which is America itself.”

The “Cultivating Thought” packaging will be arriving in all restaurants in the coming weeks. For more information about “Cultivating Thought,” please visit

RA Sushi to Host 10th Annual Nicky's Week to Benefit St. Jude

From Sunday, May 25, through Saturday, May 31, RA Sushi will host its largest annual fundraiser, “Nicky’s Week,” to help kids battling cancer and other deadly diseases. In its 10th year, the weeklong fundraiser benefits St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital®, where thanks to community support, no family ever pays for anything. That includes treatment, travel, housing and food, so families can focus on helping their child live.

During Nicky’s Week, RA Sushi will donate 100 percent of sales from a variety of menu items and beverages to St. Jude to help support the hospital’s lifesaving mission. Since its inception, Nicky’s Week has raised more than $1.3 million for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

The special Nicky’s Week menu includes: Edamame, Tootsy Maki, Shrimp Nigiri, Pork Gyoza, Chicken Yakitori, Garlic Citrus Yellowtail, plus a variety of select beverages.

All 25 RA Sushi locations in Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Kansas, Maryland, Nevada and Texas will participate in the fundraiser.

Nicky’s Week was developed in memory of St. Jude patient Nicholas “Nicky” Mailliard, of Scottsdale, Ariz., who lost a long battle with brain cancer in 2005 at the young age of 13. A nephew of one of RA Sushi’s founders, Nicky held a special place in the hearts of RA Sushi associates throughout the organization. RA Sushi initiated the fundraiser to honor the memory of Nicky and to raise awareness and funds for St. Jude, where no child is ever turned away because of a family’s inability to pay for medical treatments.

“Nicky’s Week is an exciting time for our team members. Everyone at RA Sushi rallies behind the cause and is honored to help the brave children benefiting from the lifesaving treatment and research at St. Jude,” said RA Sushi Regional Manager, Chad Wilke.

St. Jude freely shares the breakthroughs it makes, so every child saved at St. Jude means doctors and scientists worldwide can use that knowledge to save thousands more children. The hospital treats children from all 50 states, including Arizona, and around the world.
