Chesapeake Crab & Beer Festival in the Inner Harbor

the Chesapeake Crab & Beer Festival will make a stop at Westshore Park in the Inner Harbor on Saturday, June 21st  in two fun-filled sessions from 11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. The Festival is an ALL-YOU-CARE-TO-TASTE extravaganza complete with thousands of crabs, lots of beer, arts & crafts, music, family fun and so much more!

Guests can enjoy the great food! There are over 20,000 crabs on-hand, plus steamed corn on the cob, cole slaw and UTZ potato chips.  Guests should enjoy the fact that the portions are not limited and the crabs will be freshly steamed on-site. In addition, guests will enjoy all you care to over 20 different beers and wines in their souvenir glasses.

Seating is limited, communal and all seats are covered under large tents.   There are only 500 tickets per session and the event is expected to SELL-OUT in advance.

According to TaVida Rice, property manager at The Can Company, Soyombo is the latest addition to an already vibrant and ever-evolving mix at The Can Company. “Our goal is to continue to provide local residents and visitors alike new dining and entertainment options that build on the success of our current offerings,” says Rice.

Soyombo Grille owners Drs. Shawn and Monika Dhillon, along with Executive Chef/Managing Partner Michael A. Bates, Jr., are introducing the Asian concept in a newly renovated space with a design that recalls the Mongolian Empire conquered by Genghis Kahn. Diners can build their own noodle or rice bowls, while residents can meet over drinks such as customized cocktails that “smoke” in this innovative tribute to Mongolian BBQ/Stir Fry Pan Asian cuisine.

Highlighting the signature dishes and small plates are Mongo nachos, sizzling kabobs, Hoisin-glazed salmon, Asian style crab cakes, and Mongolian BBQ Ribeye. Vegans and vegetarians will find plenty of selections on the wide-ranging menu. “We received great feedback for the concept – an evolution of our original quick serve restaurant,” says Soyombo owner Dhillon. “Our goal is to exceed our guests’ expectations – with fresh, quality food in an amazing new atmosphere.”

Amenities offered include personal chef service, private dining, a full bar with large screen TV’s, and live entertainment. Outdoor dining will available later this year. The restaurant will initially be open for lunch and dinner, and will later offer brunch. Hours are: Sunday through Thursday opening at 11 a.m. - 10 p.m..; Friday and Saturday opening at 11:30 a.m., with the kitchen closing at 11 p.m. and the bar closing at 2 a.m. Happy Hour will be offered from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

Maryland Live! Names Chef Joseph Ku, Chef de Cuisine for new Luk Ku Restaurant

Maryland Live! Casino today announced that CHEF JOSEPH KU has been named Chef de Cuisine of its new Asian-themed restaurant to be named LUK FU.

Set to open late Spring 2014, LUK FU (pronounced LUCK FOO) will be an authentic, fast-paced, vibrant Asian-themed venue, offering favorite fare from South East Asia spanning generations, including Dim Sum, Wok-Fried and Steamed Noodles, Grilled Satay and Congee; complemented with Rice and Vegetable Dishes, traditional Desserts, and a selection of Asian teas and coffees like Oolong and Jasmine Hot Teas, Bubble Teas, and Vietnamese Coffee.

The restaurant, which is currently under construction, will feature approximately 80 seats and an open dining room that overlooks the Casino floor. Guests will enjoy the noodle bar and elevated “show kitchen,” which offers a unique dining experience with signature dishes being freshly prepared in front of them.

Leading the development is CHEF JOSEPH KU, who brings more than 30 years of professional culinary experience to his new position. Chef Ku has helmed the kitchens and opened fine dining establishments in many Four Star hotels, casinos, and restaurants worldwide from Hong Kong to San Francisco, Texas, Mississippi and Atlantic City. Chef Ku was trained at Today’s World Restaurant in Shanghai, China, and has experience with a range of cuisine from Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore, Korea and Japan, especially in traditional Szechwan, Hunan and Cantonese specialties.

Chef Ku was most recently the Executive Asian Chef at the Pechanga Hotel Casino in California. Prior, he served as Chef de Cuisine at Caesars Hotel & Casino in Atlantic City, where he opened KWI Restaurant & Noodle Bar, which quickly became one of the top Asian restaurants in the region. He held similar position at the Beau Rivage Resort & Casino in Biloxi, MS, and at the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa, where he opened N.O.W. – Noodles of the World Restaurant.

During his career, Chef Joe has directed spectacular culinary events for thousands of guests, including the Discovery Center “National Geographic Event” at Beau Rivage, and the “Food & Wine Festival” in Atlantic City.

Michael's Cafe Announces The Opening of New Outdoor Patio

Michael's Café Raw Bar & Grill, the family owned and managed restaurant known for its award-winning crab cakes, announced today the opening of The Patio at Michael's Café.  The makeover, led by architects SMP, altered the restaurant's outdoor patio dining area. Jim Wilson of Wilson Builders was the General Contractor for the 4,300 square foot renovation project. 
 
The Patio at Michael’s Café includes a newly designed indoor bar, outdoor lounge, dining area, and back bar, all of which accommodates up to 120 guests.  The indoor space is close to 2,000 square feet and contains a bar, community table, fireplace and restrooms.  The exterior space, which was 500 square feet prior to the renovation, is now close to 2,400 square feet. 
 
The renovation features a modern sleek décor with muted tones of gray and earth shades. The indoor bar features white stone top while the outdoor bar has a white concrete top.  A stone and Ipe wall encases a two-sided fireplace providing heat and ambiance to the interior patio bar and outdoor casual lounge area.  Flatscreen TVs are located throughout The Patio at Michael’s Café, allowing guests to enjoy sporting games while dining.  Along with the contemporary aesthetics, live music provides a nightlife destination-feel every weekend.
 
Executive Chef Warren Norris continues to lead the kitchen offering a large and varied contemporary American menu with specialties in seafood featuring the signature crab cake and prime beef. The bar and patio menu showcases signature selections such as Surf & Turf Burger, soft shell crab, black angus burger, Pecan smoked bacon, American cheese, avocado, lettuce, topped with sweet chili mayo; Michael’s Mac, two turkey patties, special sauce and toppings; and Sweet Chili Calamari, fried and tossed with banana peppers and sweet chili sauce. 
 
Michael’s extends a happy hour menu, available from 3-7 p.m. in the bar and patio, with new creations such as Crab Deviled Eggs, chef’s special recipe with crab meat; Buffalo Shrimp, fried and tossed with a buffalo sauce topped with crumbled blue cheese; Crab Nachos, topped with crab meat, jack cheese, jalapenos, tomato, olives, lettuce and sour cream; Saku Tuna Toppers, 4 served on top of crispy wontons, seaweed and wasabi; among much more.
 
 The Patio at Michael’s Café features an extensive beverage menu of top shelf liquors, moderately priced wines by the bottle or glass, local wine such as Boordy Riesling, and a full array of domestic and imported beers along with local craft beers including Brewer’s Art, Union Craft Brewing, and Flying Dog.  Hand crafted cocktails are also available in the bar and The Patio at Michael’s Cafe.

Gertrude's recently announced that it has been named a winner of OpenTable Diner's Choice Awards for the Top 100 Best Brunch Restaurants in America. The list of winners is derived from more than five million reviews submitted by OpenTable diners for more than 19,000 restaurants in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.

Sip Wine Shop & Restaurant coming to the Ritz-Carlton Residences

Joseph Graziose, Senior Vice President for RXR Realty, developers of The Ritz-Carlton Residences, Inner Harbor, Baltimore announced today that an independently-owned restaurant Sip Wine Shop & Restaurant has purchased the restaurant space at The Ritz-Carlton Residences.

New to the Baltimore market, Sip Wine Shop & Restaurant, a retail wine market and tapas restaurant, will feature an innovative concept, relaxed yet elegant atmosphere, wide selection of international wines, and chef-driven tapas menu.

Expected to open Labor Day 2014, Sip Wine Shop & Restaurant will offer over 50 wines that may be ordered by the 1 ounce sip, half glass, full glass or bottle.  Additionally, an extensive selection of more than 150 wines will be available by the bottle.  Sip Wine will feature wines from South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Chile, Argentina, Portugal, Spain, Italy, France, and state wineries including California’s Napa Valley and Willamette Valley in Oregon.

The restaurant will include tapas-style menu items offered for lunch and dinner.  Each succulent dish will be paired with a wine suggestion.  Sip Wine Shop & Restaurant will boast an open kitchen – which will take center stage at the 5,800 square-foot restaurant – and provide seasonal outdoor dining.

Sip Wine Shop & Restaurant will be located at 801 Key Highway in Building One (located on the north-end of the building) at The Ritz-Carlton Residences, Inner Harbor, Baltimore.  With restaurant valet parking, guests will appreciate the ease of visiting the downtown destination.  The restaurant will feature a bold industrial chic atmosphere highlighted by distressed wood, and a vibrant color scheme that is perfectly complemented by dark wood tones.  Guests can enjoy their stay by sitting at the family style tables, cozy booths, or at the accommodating bar.  All of which contribute to the warm and welcoming atmosphere found at Sip Wine Shop & Restaurant.

Chipotle Partners With Celebrity Authors on Thoughtful New Packaging

Chipotle Mexican Grill (NYSE: CMG) today launched the “Cultivating Thought” author series, a new program that features original essays written by influential thought leaders, authors, actors and comedians on its restaurant packaging. Created in partnership with NewYork Times best-selling author Jonathan Safran Foer (Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, Eating Animals, Everything is Illuminated), who curated the series, these stories are meant to entertain customers while exposing them to some of the most creative and influential people of our time.

Chipotle has traditionally produced content that aims to change the way people think about and eat fast food. This author series serves as an extension of the company’s mission to tell their unique story by engaging customers with thought-provoking ideas and cultural issues. The essays are accompanied by unique illustrations commissioned from a wide range of talented artists.

RA Sushi seasonal specials for a limited time

RA Sushi has some new seasonal dishes available for a limited time, a brand new sushi category, hand rolls, plus an expanded selection of crave worthy soups will be an exciting addition to RA’s list of offerings.

Typically only prepared as a special request item, RA Sushi will be serving a selection of creative hand rolls. Perfectly portioned for one, these too good to share rolls are only $3 each. Wrapped in lo bok and soy paper (nori available upon request), the hand rolls are available in six different varieties.

The Spicy Tuna, Spicy Salmon and Spicy Scallop hand rolls feature spicy tuna mix, spicy salmon mix or spicy scallop mix, plus avocado and cucumber. For those who like even more heat, the Chili Ponzu Yellowtail is filled with spicy yellowtail mix, chili ponzu sauce, cilantro, jalapeno and cucumber. For a little crunch, the Calamari Tempura hand roll features tempura calamari with eel sauce and cream cheese. The Shrimp Tempura hand roll is a combination of shrimp tempura, kani kama crab mix, tuna mix, creamy wasabi sauce, avocado and cucumber.

Before the weather heats up, enjoy a bowl of one of RA Sushi’s new soups for only $5. A lighter option, the Zen Tofu Soup features tofu, Asian vegetables and seaweed, served in a seasoned broth and topped with green onion. RA Sushi to Host 10th Annual Nicky's Week to Benefit St. Jude

From Sunday, May 25, through Saturday, May 31, RA Sushi will host its largest annual fundraiser, “Nicky’s Week,” to help kids battling cancer and other deadly diseases. In its 10th year, the weeklong fundraiser benefits St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital®, where thanks to community support, no family ever pays for anything. That includes treatment, travel, housing and food, so families can focus on helping their child live.

During Nicky’s Week, RA Sushi will donate 100 percent of sales from a variety of menu items and beverages to St. Jude to help support the hospital’s lifesaving mission. Since its inception, Nicky’s Week has raised more than $1.3 million for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

The special Nicky’s Week menu includes: Edamame, Tootsy Maki, Shrimp Nigiri, Pork Gyoza, Chicken Yakitori, Garlic Citrus Yellowtail, plus a variety of select beverages.

Nicky’s Week was developed in memory of St. Jude patient Nicholas “Nicky” Mailliard, of Scottsdale, Ariz., who lost a long battle with brain cancer in 2005 at the young age of 13. A nephew of one of RA Sushi’s founders, Nicky held a special place in the hearts of RA Sushi associates throughout the organization. RA Sushi initiated the fundraiser to honor the memory of Nicky and to raise awareness and funds for St. Jude, where no child is ever turned away because of a family’s inability to pay for medical treatments.

Maryland Live! Casino is celebrating Mother’s Day with a special Jazz Brunch at the Zagat-Rated #1 SteakhouseThe Prime Rib on Sunday, May 11. For $50 per person, (plus tax and gratuity), guests can treat Mom to live Jazz entertainment and a specialty menu featuring Eggs Florentine; Brioche French Toast; Maple Soy Glazed Salmon; Waldorf Salad; and Fresh Cut Fruit with Lavender Honey. Personalized Omelets, plus Country Ham and Prime Rib carving stations, will also be available. Top it off with a sweet treat from the Chocolate and Berries Crepe Station or an indulgence from theDessert Table with Chef’s selection of assorted desserts.  The Mother’s Day specials can also be enjoyed outside on The Patio at The Prime Rib, which features a retractable roof and elegant garden setting.  The Mother’s Day Jazz Brunch will be held 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 11. Teachers get BOGO at Chipotle and ShopHouse

This year, the nation’s educators are being put at the head of the class with one exciting promotion!

On May 6, Chipotle Mexican Grill will celebrate Teacher Appreciation Day with a special buy-one, get-one (BOGO) deal for school staff at all Chipotle locations in the U.S.

From 4pm until close, all educators who present a valid school ID will receive a free burrito, burrito bowl, salad or order of tacos with the purchase of another menu item. Available for in-store orders only, the promotion is applicable to all teachers, faculty and school staff of all levels, from preschool to university, as well as homeschooling parents with official documentation. 

Additionally, Chipotle’s sister restaurant, ShopHouse Southeast Asian Kitchen, will celebrate Teacher Appreciation Day with a deal of its own at all (DC/LA) locations. From 3pm until 10pm, all educators presenting a valid ID will receive a FREE entrée. As background, ShopHouse presents the same service format as Chipotle, allowing guests to fully customize their bowls from the entirely gluten- and dairy-free menu which includes curries, vegetables, organic tofu and responsibly raised® meats, all flavored with the bold spices of Southeast Asia.
