World Cup Watch Party on Tues, July 1st

Power Plant Live has been the place to be for all of Team USA’s action in the World Cup, and it will once again host Baltimore’s largest Watch Party for the knockout round this Tuesday afternoon! The game kicks-off at 4 pm, and the doors open at 3 pm.
Hundreds of fans decked out in red, white and blue have cheered on America against Ghana, Portugal, and Germany, and they’ll be doing so again as USA takes on Belgium and tries to advance to the quarterfinals of the World Cup!
Spend your afternoon this Tuesday, July 1st with Lindy Promotions and Miller Lite for an exciting afternoon of World Cup action! The Watch Party will feature the game broadcast on a huge 20-foot projection screen, bringing you the best fan atmosphere around! A DJ will be spinning great tunes before and after the game and during halftime! Charm City Cakes July Cake Decorating Classes

Charm City Cakes revels in all things summer—from pirates to baseball to pool parties to My Little Pony fans— with cake decorating classes all season long. School may be officially out, but beginning Saturday, July 5th at 11:00 am, class is in session at the renowned bakery.  Students ages 14 and up can learn a variety of decorating fundamentals from Charm City Cakes’ veteran decorators. A special cake decorating class and competition on Saturday, July 13 pits Orioles fans against Yankees supporters for a chance to win tickets to that evening’s game, as well as benefit the Young Adult Institute. The month ends with an entertaining evening class dedicated to “Bronies” and BronyCon, the My Little Pony fan event held at the Baltimore Convention Center.

All classes are $150 per participant. Vegan and gluten-free cake options are also available, as well as private lessons, small group classes, bachelorette parties, team building, and gift certificates.

Ruffles and ombré are some of this season’s hottest cake decorating design trends, and now students will have the chance to replicate this hot look! Veteran decorator Mary Smith will teach participants decoration fundamentals, such as gumpaste preparation and ruffle application. Everyone will leave with a 6” fully-decorated cake, with the choice of teal, pink, yellow, or purple ombré.

In this class, students will learn how to decorate a one-tier lace cake at the Charm City Cakes Studio. Participants will be able to practice various design skills, such as how to make a piping bag and prepare fondant, as well as craft edible roses.

In this afternoon class, students will learn to make this sweet, yet simple carousel cake and learn the basics of fondant application and making cutouts. A portion of the proceeds from this class will benefit Sophie’s & Madigan’s Playground, a non-profit organization honoring the lives of Sophie and Madigan Lillard, who died at ages six and three as a result of a horrific house fire on January 31, 2013.

In honor of this great baseball rivalry, Mary Smith will host a cake class and competition that is sure to get everyone fired up (along with a little sugar high). The Orioles have generously donated two pairs of tickets and batting practice field passes to that evening’s 8:05 p.m. game against the Yankees to the first and second place winners, so batter’s up, cake decorators!  Additionally, a portion of the class proceeds will benefit the Young Adult Institute, a non-profit organization that provides hope and opportunity to people of all ages with developmental disabilities and their families.

Shiver your timbers when you learn how to decorate a one-tier pirate cake! Students will learn fondant preparation, cutout-shape construction, and gold tooth application–all without having to venture out onto the high seas. Arg! The team at Charm City Cakes is ecstatic to hold their second annual BronyCon cake decorating class, in honor of Baltimore’s August 1-3 fan convention celebrating My Little Pony. Participants at this nighttime celebration will receive a 6” cake, and get a chance to design and decorate it to correspond with their favorite pony (Apple Jack, Dashie, Rarity, Twi, or Fluttershy), all with the guidance from Mary Smith.

Week 1 of the Mason Dixon Master Chef Tournament results

Four teams competed last week in the first week of the eight week competition Mason Dixon Master Chef Tournament, including The Mt. Airy Tavern, The Point in Fells, Bluegrass Tavern and Chef’s Expressions. Each team prepared an original appetizer, entrée and dessert featuring products from sponsors Emmi Roth USA, Roland, Heinz, Hatfield, E. Goodwin & Sons Seafood, DeMedici. Chefs were required to use the proteins pork skirt and conch, as well as coconut water, pickapeppa sauce, papaya chunks, Chipotle concentrate, grand cru and passion fruit vinegar supplied by the week’s sponsors. Chefs were also given a secret ingredient (a different one for each team) during cold prep that also had to be incorporated.

The three expert judges and panel of guest judges, made up of audience members who purchased ‘Judging Experience’ tickets, had a difficult task as they choose winners each night that eliminated two teams. In the end, The Point in Fells and Chef’s Expressions were victorious and will face each other in Round 2 on Monday, July 21th (tickets available for purchase now online at

Guests were also treated to a complementary wine tasting and hors d’ouerves, prepared by host Alizee American Bistro, as well as a dessert bar and coffee to round out their evening. There was also a surprise appearance by Chef Jesse Sandlin (Top Chef Season 6), who dropped by to sit is as an expert judge for the evening on Tuesday.

Chesapeake Crab & Beer Festival in the Inner Harbor

The Chesapeake Crab & Beer Festival will make a stop at Westshore Park in the Inner Harbor on Saturday, June 21st  in two fun-filled sessions from 11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. The Festival is an ALL-YOU-CARE-TO-TASTE extravaganza complete with thousands of crabs, lots of beer, arts & crafts, music, family fun and so much more!

Guests can enjoy the great food! There are over 20,000 crabs on-hand, plus steamed corn on the cob, cole slaw and UTZ potato chips.  Guests should enjoy the fact that the portions are not limited and the crabs will be freshly steamed on-site. In addition, guests will enjoy all you care to over 20 different beers and wines in their souvenir glasses.

Seating is limited, communal and all seats are covered under large tents.   There are only 500 tickets per session and the event is expected to SELL-OUT in advance.

Rusty Scupper Celebrates Father¹s Day

his Father’s Day, show your love and appreciation for dad by treating him to a feast fit for a king at the Rusty Scupper Restaurant and Bar. Families will relax and enjoy an array of items as they take in a spectacular view of the Inner Harbor at Rusty Scupper’s   annual Father’s Day brunch on Sunday, June 15.

Maryland Live! Casino brings the traditional flavors of South East Asia to the casino floor with LUK FU, a fast-paced, vibrant Asian-themed restaurant scheduled to open on JUNE 10. Free donut for National Donut Day

This Friday, June 6th (tomorrow), is National Donut Day! The holiday was originally established in 1938 by the Chicago Salvation Army to honor women who served donuts to soldiers during World War I. 

To celebrate and to bring the joy of donuts to people all around the world, Dunkin’ Donuts will offer guests a free donut of their choice with the purchase of any beverage.

Additionally, Dunkin’ Donuts has launched a new donut in honor of National Donut Day. The new Blueberry Cobbler Donut features a yeast shell donut with delicious blueberry filling, white dipping icing and coffee cake streusel topping.
