Announcing The Taste of Mason Dixon

If you didn't have a chance to sample the chefs creations this summer during the Mason Dixon Master Chef Tournament, now's your chance. Chefs from the Mason Dixon Master Chef Tournament will be at Boordy Vineyards on Saturday, October 10th from 12 noon - 3pmincluding 2015 Grand Champions My Thai Baltimore!
You can sample some great food, have some Boordy wine and listen to live music from The Jazz Cats in the historic and beautiful Boordy barn. 
Tickets are just $10 each (plus service fee) and must be purchase in advance. Only 200 tickets will be sold to this event.

Golden West Cafe presents Ham Week 2015

Golden West Cafe is excited to announce its 2nd annual Ham Week, featuring 8 full days of chef specials, along with ham-inspired desserts and drinks. 

Our carefully curated Ham Week menus will be offered all wekk, featuring a celebration of the love of pork. Our menus will include our own take on traditional ham plates, southwestern-inspired dishes, and a variety of classic favorites to satisfy any pork affictionados. 

Ham Week offerings will change throughout the eight days, with various options being available from both our Take Out Window, dining room and bar. Featured dishes include Brussel Sprouts w/Ham & Fried Eggs, Pork & Groundnut Stew, and Apple-Scrapple & Egg Biscuits. Desserts such as cupcakes with bacon brittle and bacon-cinnamon rolls will be available at various times throughout the week, along with a varitey of drink pairings.

And fear not! Vegan and Vegetarian friends... Golden West will host its very first Vegan Week, October 5th-12th, with a plethora of veggie delights.

This September, guests can cozy up to a delicious Oatmeal Raisin Ice Cream Waffle Sandwich at any Miss Shirley's Cafe location!
Continuing their partnership with local Hampden Ice Cream Shop, The Charmery, Miss Shirley’s new special will feature an Oatmeal Raisin Cookie Ice Cream with chunks of Raisins & Cookie Crumbles.
The Charmery is a family-owned and operated Ice Cream Shop known for scooping up fun and creative flavors, unique to Baltimore. Their super-premium ice cream is handcrafted daily, using only the best possible ingredients from area farms and vendors whenever possible.

Dunkin Donuts Kicks Off the 2015-2016 NFL Season with the Return of Baltimore Ravens-Inspired Products and Promotions

Dunkin’ Donuts of the Greater Baltimore region, a proud partner of the Baltimore Ravens, is helping fans kick off the 2015-2016 NFL season with the return of its Baltimore Ravens-inspired products and promotions. Beginning today, September 7, Dunkin’ Donuts restaurants in the greater Baltimore region will celebrate all things purple with the return of Ravens-inspired donuts, packaging and the “Ravens Win You Win” mobile app promotion. 

This season’s roster of products includes the Ravens Nation Donut, a yeast shell filled with vanilla buttercreme, topped with chocolate dipping icing and purple sprinkles; and Poe’s Purple Donut, a yeast ring with white dipping icing topped with purple sprinkles. Fans can also show off their purple pride with Dunkin’ Donuts hot and iced coffee served in Baltimore Ravens cups, as well as Baltimore Ravens Box O’ Joe® and dozen and half-dozen donut box packaging. 

The 2015-2016 NFL season also marks the return of Dunkin’ Donuts’ “Ravens Win, You Win” mobile promotion, where guests can download the Dunkin’ Mobile® App and receive a free Medium Hot or Iced Coffee the day after a Ravens win. P.F. Chang¹s Invites Baltimore Diners to Help Feed Hungry Families

In honor of National Rice Month in September, P.F. Chang’s is partnering with America’s rice farmers to launch Ricegivingsm, an inaugural campaign designed to serve those in need and help fight hunger. P.F. Chang’s has teamed with America’s rice farmers to donate a bowl of rice for every main entrĂ©e purchased in the month of September. The goal of the program is to donate 100,000 pounds of rice to Feeding America, which will help feed 1 million people in need. P.F. Chang’s guests are invited to grab their chopsticks and join the cause.

“We are honored to invite our guests to join in this important cause by dining to donate,” said Michael Osanloo, Chief Executive Officer of P.F. Chang’s. “Thanks to our loyal customers, we will be able to help put food on the table for many American families.” 

According to Feeding America, more than one in six people in the U.S. struggle with hunger every day.  Ricegivingsm is another way organizations are coming together to fight this reality and partner to end hunger, and it’s an opportunity for P.F. Hops for Housing Fundraiser

The Women’s Housing Coalition (WHC) is hosting an Oktoberfest-style event called Hops for Housing on Thursday, September 17, 2015 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Union Craft Brewing in Hampden. Tickets can be purchased online at before the event for $25, or at the door for $30. 

The event ticket includes a brewery tour, a commemorative Union Craft Brewing pint glass, and a pint of beer. Food truck fare and ice cream will also be available to purchase.

“We’re very excited to be partnering with Union Craft Brewing for our first Hops for Housing,” said Danielle Koch, member of the board of directors and chair of the Fund Development sub-committee for Women’s Housing Coalition. “Our planning committee has put a lot of hard work into making this charitable event fun for everyone.” 

One dollar from every pint purchased and proceeds from event raffles in addition to a portion of the ticket proceeds, will be donated to the WHC.

“Women’s Housing Coalition helps homeless women in Baltimore City, a historically underserved population, by providing them with safe housing and the services they need to take care of themselves and their children,” said Jane Robinson, president of the board of directors for Women’s Housing Coalition. “How great is it that you will be helping to end the vicious cycle of homelessness by joining us for fun?”

Free McCafé Coffee Every Tuesday from McDonald's for Greater Baltimore area Educators

Starting Tuesday, September 8th, McDonald’s® Family Restaurants of Greater Baltimore will again be saying “Thank You” to local educators with Teacher Tuesdays by offering complimentary any size McCafĂ© Drip Coffee or Tea (hot or iced) every Tuesday throughout the ENTIRE 2015-2016 school year. 

For three years in a row, the Teacher Tuesdays program has been a part of the Greater Baltimore McDonald’s® proud legacy of supporting local education in the communities they serve. McDonald’s has made supporting education a top priority, believing that it is important to recognize leaders who serve their communities and make a positive difference in the lives of Greater Baltimore’s youth.

2015 Mason Dixon Master Chef Tournament Concludes, and the Winner is...

he Mason Dixon Master Chef Tournament, the largest culinary competition of its kind in the Mid-Atlantic a region, concluded August 16th in front of a sell-out crowd at the Inn at the Colonnade a Doubletree by Hilton Hotel (4 University Parkway, Baltimore). 
The Tournament, which is in its fifth year, is a bracket-style single-elimination tournament. Competition started back in June with 16 chef teams vying for over $12,000 in cash and prizes, and the title of “2015 Mason Dixon Master Chef Champions”, and concluded on Sunday, August 16th with teams from My Thai Baltimore and Colony South Hotel & Conference Center going head-to-head for one final match. Both teams brought their expertise and creativity to “Battle Avant Garde”, but only one emerged as the Champions – My Thai Baltimore!
Both chef teams were required to use a variety of featured products including:
·         Tapioca Maltodextrine and Pop Rocks from Pastry Star 
·         Cherry Balsamic Vinegar from DeMedici
·         Quail Eggs, Squab and Pheasant from AM Briggs
·         Moody Blue Smoked Blue Cheese from Emmi Roth USA
·         Cab Franc from Boordy Vineyards
In addition, each chef team had two secret ingredients they had to incorporate at the last minute. My Thai’s secret ingredients were White Anchovies and Fontina, Colony South’s secret ingredients were Chipotle Peppers and Nutter Butter Cream.

The My Thai team (Executive Chef Jirat Suphrom-in, Sous Chef Zach LeDoux, and Sous Chef Martha Walton), had 30 minutes of cold prep and just one hour of cooking time to produce their winning dishes:
Appetizer50 SHADES OF YUM (pressure cooked squab in tom yum soup with yummy crispy wonton; served with yum yum sauce, lined with yum green curry sauce, and topped with yum foam)
EntrĂ©e: HONEY SKIN PHEASANT PACKAGE (with cheese rice and fried noodles, net and yolk, served with yellow miso crispy salad, and finished with a ginger garlic wine sauce)
Dessert: MOJITO GALLO (with pop rocks served with balsamic meringue and a cherry macadamia chunk sauce)

The Colony South Hotel team (Executive Chef Lanydrek Christ Pandzou, Sous Chef Elder Lopez, and Sous Chef Cheyenne Armstrong) created equally impressive dishes: 
Appetizer: BOULETTE (fresh grounded fried squab boulette with radicchio salad, sliced poached baby pear, quail sunny side up egg, mint garlic aioli, watercress, toasted almond and pomegranate honey ginger balsamic dressing)
EntrĂ©e: PHEASANT A L'ORANGE (herbed pan braised pheasant with raisin mint Senegalese cous cous, bacon sauteed Brussel sprouts, shredded carrots, celery, red onions,  shredded pailled potatoes and spiced orange gastric)
Dessert: CREAM DE LAIT SUCRE (Rich toffee cream with crispy cookie bar, white chocolate petal, fresh fruit leaf, sweet pistachio paste whipped cream and rum mango passion fruits sauce)

The expert judging panel for the night was Mitchell Platt, General Manager of The COSMOS Club in Washington, DC, Chef Marc Dixon, Owner of Barcocina, and Chef Adam Snyder of Brew House No. 16. This panel, along with audience members who purchased ‘Judging Experience’ tickets, tasted and voted to determine the night’s winner.

The winning My Thai team received almost $10,000 in prizes, including: $1,000 cash from the organizers, a Wisconsin cheese making trip with sponsor Emmi Roth USA which includes airfare and an overnight stay with behind the scenes education and tours of cheese making facilities as well as a beer brewery tour (valued at approximately $3,000), a cheese course kit also from Emmi Roth USA, a Vulcan convection oven and installation (valued at $4,000), a professional Robo Coupe professional immersion blender ($800), a $250 ECOLAB gift certificate, the official Chef a la Mode Championship jacket and competition jackets, a fire-inspired trophy for the winning restaurant, gold metals for each member of the winning team, and of course bragging rights as the 2015 Mason Dixon Master Chef Champions! 
The runner-up also receives culinary prizes from sponsors valued at over $1,500, including a professional Robo Coupe professional immersion blender, a bar basket from American Metal Craft, a $250 ECOLAB gift certificate, a cheese course kit from Emmi Roth USA, silver metals for each member of the winning team.
However, the biggest winner of the night was charity partner Meals on Wheels of Central Maryland (, who received a check for $3,000 from the organizers. With this check, the Mason Dixon Master Chef Tournament has now donated over $14,000 to local food-related charities since it began in 2010.
Prizes were also awards to a number of other teams and chefs over the semi-finals and final week of competition, including:

·         Best EntrĂ©e – Basta Pasta
·         Best Dessert – The White Oak Tavern
·         People’s Choice – The Roasthouse Pub
·         The Clark Raines Rising Star Award – Sous Chef Martha Walton of My Thai Baltimore was honored with this first-time award for the sous chef who demonstrated the most potential, talent and drive throughout the competition. The award named for friend and 5 year supporter Chef Clark Raines of Maple Leaf Farms, who passed away in April of this year.
·         Awards for 5 Years of Support for the Tournament were also awarded to: Marc Dixon (Barcocina), Jerry Edwards (Chefs’ Expressions), Jerry Pellegrino (Waterfront Kitchen), Mitchell Platt (COSMOS Club), Keith Shapiro (SYSCO Baltimore), Sarah Simington (Blue Moon CafĂ©),Ron Skidmore (Emmi Roth USA), Ted Stelzenmuller (Jack’s Bistro)
